We are shocked by the vile, antisemitic attack last night outside the AJC event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. This violence does nothing to help the Palestinian cause, but certainly will raise tensions here in New York and undermine the legitimate work being done to advance peace in Israel and Palestine. Rather, this senseless, antisemitic attack contributes to growing fears in Jewish communities in NY and throughout the country.
The mainstreaming of hate speech often leads to hate crimes and this is certainly what happened in DC last night. We hope that the violence will be denounced by all people of conscience who care about Jewish and broader communal safety. May the memories of Yaron and Sarah be a blessing. May we someday see a just and peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians, as we have learned that Sarah was working toward. May our community worship and gather without fear.
