NEW YORK JEWISH AGENDA (NYJA)
JOB DESCRIPTION
NYJA advocates, organizes, and convenes to promote the values of the liberal Jewish New York majority to influence state and local politics, policy, and communal discourse. Our vision is a future where the Jewish communal and political discourse in New York are deeply rooted in and guided by liberal Jewish values. NYJA engages on critical issues across New York City and State related to our platform.
OVERVIEW
The Executive Director is the principal executive officer of NYJA. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of demonstrated leadership in public affairs, nonprofit management, advocacy, politics, and/or government; a strategic and creative approach to political education and outreach; experience in fundraising and communications; and a deep understanding of the Jewish community and the New York political landscape. The Executive Director manages the programmatic, fundraising, administrative and advocacy activities of NYJA and reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Programming
- Creates and implements city- and statewide strategies for engaging with elected officials, political candidates, and opinion leaders, including developing relationships with key political leaders, journalists, and other stakeholders.
- Prepares and disseminates educational programming and materials to encourage an educated electorate.
- Convenes grasstops leaders and organizations, and builds coalitions around issues important to NYJA.
- Oversees fun, social programming that energizes the Jewish community around NYJA, including young adult and holiday events.
Communications & Marketing
- Oversees NYJA’s marketing, visibility, and public relations activities, building and implementing a comprehensive public affairs strategy that includes traditional media, social media, email, and more.
- Serves as primary spokesperson for NYJA in the media, at public events, and beyond, continually working to raise NYJA’s visibility.
Development
- Identifies,cultivates, and solicits new funding sources and cultivates and solicits existing donors, including relationships with key donors and working with NYJA staff and board to create and submit grant proposals.
- Works with staff, consultants and the board to design and implement the development program, including through house parties, individual giving moves management protocols, and online fundraising.
Finance, Governance, Oversight, & Administration
- Creates an annual budget and manages revenue and expenditures for review and approval by the Board.
- Hires, supervises, and supports NYJA staff, while developing and maintaining effective administration plans.
- Oversees NYJA’s accounting professionals, including the completion of an annual audit and compliance with all federal and state tax and filing requirements.
- Oversees strategic planning to ensure that NYJA can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
Board Relations
- Partners closely with the NYJA board on strategic planning, policy development, ongoing responses to issues related to NYJA’s mission, financial management, fundraising, and more.
- Supports the recruitment, selection, training, and orientation of new Board members.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $155,000, commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid parental leave. Although this is a remote position without regular office-based work, the position is based in New York City and the successful candidate must live in New York or have a longstanding connection to New York.
