On Thursday, October 29th, NYJA hosted Between the Polls, a conversation with author Ami Fields-Meyer and Haaretz journalist Philissa Cramer, moderated by Margo Hughes-Robinson. In the liminal moment between Israel’s election and the U.S. midterms, we asked what these votes might mean for democracy and for Jewish New Yorkers.
Together, we explored the power and limits of electoral politics in resisting authoritarianism, the possibilities and uncertainties emerging from Israel’s election, and the political homelessness felt by some American Jews. How can we protect a free and fair vote, build coalitions across differences, and create Jewish communities that make room for both difficult questions and joy?
